Set at a narrower configuration (26-33 inches), the SAFESCAN INTERCEPT PILLAR ferromagnetic detector has greater sensitivity for smaller ferromagnetic threats. The SAFESCAN INTERCEPT PILLAR system is positioned up to 54 inches apart (or greater when required) to provide doorway protection for larger threats, either entering Zone III or within Zone III protecting the magnet room door (frequently 48 inches wide).
Note: If small ferromagnetic threat objects pass through the aperture closely to the sensors located in each pillar's vertical limb, these can often be detected, even if the pillars are spaced at a wider distance. With ANY ferromagnetic detection ferromagnetic detector sensitivity increases to the cube of the distance - 2x closer to the sensors results in 8x increase sensitivity.
The SAFESCAN INTERCEPT PILLAR ferromagnetic detector system has a fundamental (patented) technological advantage because of the utilization of a non-radiating, passive (DC) magnetic field to improve sensitivity and detection capability. This is especially important for detection of non-premagnetized ferromagnetic objects which have no magnetic moment of their own.
We emphasize that the independent field of our SAFESCAN® products, including the SAFESCAN INTERCEPT PILLAR system, is completely passive (i.e., DC) and there is NO electromagnetic radiation and no pulsed magnetic fields. Imaging quality will not be affected in any way, nor will credit cards be erased, and no shielding is required. Cell phones are unaffected.
The SAFESCAN INTERCEPT PILLAR ferromagnetic detector system can be used with pacemakers for medically cleared patients. (However, most centers do not scan patients with pacemakers in the first place.) The field diminishes to less than 5 gauss at a distance of 2 feet.
Since the SAFESCAN INTERCEPT PILLAR ferromagnetic detector system operates completely independently of the MRI fringing field, it can be positioned where it makes the most sense, a siting advantage. And because each pillar weighs less than 40 pounds, it takes only a few moments to reposition or reconfigure the pillars, wider, narrower, or to a completely new location.
The components of the SAFESCAN INTERCEPT PILLAR ferromagnetic detector system are of the highest quality to maximize signal-to-noise ratio, detectability, and durability. The SAFESCAN INTERCEPT PILLAR ferromagnetic detector system is frequently used in tandem with the hand-held SAFESCAN TARGET SCANNER™.
The SAFESCAN INTERCEPT PILLAR ferromagnetic detector system is properly used as a double-check safety precaution AFTER the patient has been medically cleared to enter the magnet room.
